The very first time I attended Ray Anderson (Chicago 1952) live was during a short trip in Denmark in 1996.

No internet available yet (can you amagine?) and not aware of Italy being the perfect place to go for summer concerts I was looking for an oppertunity to go to a place with jazz concert during the summer. In Holland hardly happens anything in that period. With a vague notion that   Copenhague had a club running a summer programI went over there.

I was right. The club was there and the concerts also.

And there  Ray Anderson was playing with some Denmark musicans. Marilyn Mazur (known from working with Miles Davis) was there too.  I was going to meet her again some years later in Italy, working with Rita Marcotulli.

Ray started his career with  Barry Altschull and Anthony Braxton and is one of the most important trombone players of this time.

I was going to meet him again. At the BIMhuis for instance with his  BassDrumBone.

The pictures are from  Paradox (16 December 2007), being on stage with  saxophonist Paul van Kemenade, guitarist Frank Mobus (Germany) , bassist Ernst Glerum and drummer Han Bennink.
