For some reason we find more and more violin players on stage in the field of jazz.
In history of course there was the American Joe Venuti and France knew its Stéphane Grappelli (together with Django Rheindhardt and the Hot club de France).
A bit more modern was Jean Luc Ponti.
And then suddenly there is the Dutch Zapp string quartet with leader Oene van Geel. And following their path there is the Kaas quartet (with Tessa Zoutendijk).
Oene van Geel (1973) studied at Rotterdam conservatory and the Sweelinck Conservatory (South-Indian and contemporain music)
Next to Zapp we can find him in groups like Voer and Oxymore.
And on a regular base he plays with Anton Goudsmit and bass guitarist Mark Haanstra (a mate from his first days as performing musician)
On 21 januari 2009 Oene van Geel played at Paradox with the Oxymore quintet.
