Rita Marcotulli

In the past years I was with concerts of Rita  Marcotulli all over Europe. Many times I recorded her projects on video. Here you find a selection which I uploaded on YouTube. We start with the lovely trio with double bass player Palle Danielsson and the great drummer Peter Erskine.

Torbole, a nice place on the northern border of lake Garda. Garda-jazz, a nice festival every summer takes place over there. This clips I made over there. One of the finest quartets Rita lead in 2000 (she even toured in Holland with it).

And these two I recorded in Cologne, where Rita performed solo.

Rita Marcotulli (1959)  stole my musical heart when I saw her for the very first time at the Bimhuis (1996), along with a quartet of bassist Palle Danielsson. Her playing has the richness of Keith Jarrett, has influences from John Coltrane but especially its own characteristics. Rhythmic is an important starting point and in many compositions changing beats and changes in key are not shunned.

She belongs to the absolute top in Italy. Led various formations including singer Maria Pia de Vito, saxophonist Javier Girotto, a trio with Palle Danielsson and drummer Peter Erskine.

She has an extensive oeuvre and was the permanent musical partner of saxophonist Dewey Redman, when he toured Europe.
Whether in a duo, a quartet, a large formation, or even solo, they always know the public support to continue.

I invited Rita to play at my Birthday party in 2000 (Paradox). She came with a quartet including Javier Girotto, drummer Roberto Gatto and young bassist Pietro Ciangaglini

In 2003 she did a special project with Eric Vloeimans, Palle Danielsson and Roberto Gatto. After 5 concerts they went into a studio to record the record Hidden History. (Challenge records).
